    Case Story

    Creating products with heart

     

    Working with our customer to create a custom material compound and seal for an implantable cardiac pulse generator.

     

    Problem: The seal used to cover the anode termination of the device would periodically leak. The seal also created assembly difficulties as it would tear while being manipulated through the capacitor enclosure.

     

    Requirements: The sealing material needed to exhibit electrical resistance, high durability and high tear strength. It also needed to be resistant to chemical contact due to exposure to liquid battery chemistry.

     

    Result: The resultant development was an EPDM, 70 Shore A material compound to ensure the proper electrical resistivity and high tear strength properties. Our team also provided a highly durable seal with that was resistant to the battery chemistry.

     

    The new seal prevents damage to the device and improves patient outcomes.
